High Speed Doors for Exterior Applications

Differences Between High Speed Door Exterior and Interior Applications

- Each door will serve a different purpose based on the quantity and type of traffic moving through it.. For instance, if your door is going to be in a position that requires that it be able to withstand certain levels of impact, whether that be from equipment or environmental factors like wind, you need a specific type of high speed door solution.
- Based on the objective requirements, doors are created with different materials and different strengths/thickness. Using DuraMax as a curtain material example, interior applications will often call for a thickness of 60 mil while exterior applications should be at least 100 mil (although both can be used for interior). Additionally, exterior doors are designed to be “driven down” rather than the “gravity down” design that is standard to interior doors. Gravity down lacks the stability at the bottom that is needed to combat environmental factors, namely wind.
